On the surface, connecting with teens can seem challenging and even impossible sometimes. However, I have found through counseling hundreds of teens and their parents, it doesn’t have to be that challenging. Most, if not all, teens want to have a relationship with their parents. And most, if not all, parents want to have a relationship with their teen. I have found that understanding and practicing some key concepts and principles can truly change your relationship with your teen! These include personality, love language, and brain development.
First, understanding your teens personality type can make a big difference in understanding your teen, especially if their personality is very different from yours. It may not be that they are trying to be difficult, they are just different. Different motives drive them and they have different strengths and limitations that you have and this often results in conflict and disconnect. This seminar will allow you to understand your teens personality and how what you can do use this to strengthen your connection with each other. Second, your teen has a specific love language and, like their personality, your love language may be different from your teen's. You may be trying to tell your teen that you love them but they aren’t hearing you because they speak a different love language. You gain a thorough understanding of the 5 Love Languages and how to speak your teens language so they know you love them! Finally, your teen’s brain is not complete and won’t be for several more years. When you understand the workings of the teenage brain, you will have a greater sense of patience and understanding into why they do the things they do. Again, they may not be trying to intentionally upset you, they just see the world differently through their teen brain. Come and gain much better understanding of who your child is and learn how to connect them in way that you never have before!
